Carbon Footprint of Residents’ Housing Consumption and Its Driving Forces in China

A large population size and rapid economic growth have resulted in a huge amount of housing consumption China. Therefore, it is critical to identify the determinants carbon footprint (CF) prepare appropriate mitigation measures. By employing IPCC accounting method, input-output analysis stochastic impacts by regression on population, affluence, technology (STIRPAT) model, this study aims spatio-temporal patterns driving factors CF. The results show that regional disparities urban-rural differences existed during period 2012–2017. extended STIRPAT model scale energy per unit building area are two dominant contributors CF increments all areas. While, family only shows significant negative impact eastern western regions, capita disposable income induces higher rural areas, structure had remarkable positive urban region Policy recommendations proposed mitigate overall CF, including; controlling promoting urbanization benefits; encouraging green consumption; optimizing household structure, and; enhancing residential management.
